Gevorg Gharabekyan Conductor

Gevorg Gharabekyan is on a continuous musical journey of discovery, always ready to embark on new artistic adventures through his interpretations. At the core of his artistry lie intense expression, historically informed performance practices, and a deep respect for composers. As chief conductor of the chamber orchestra I TEMPI in Basel (Switzerland), he has gained international recognition with numerous concerts and recordings, releasing several acclaimed CDs and various live recordings.

Gharabekyan began his musical career as a violinist in Armenia. At the age of 19, he moved to Germany to study with Rainer Kussmaul, former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, in Freiburg im Breisgau. He continued his studies with Adelina Oprean in Basel, Switzerland, and specialized in Baroque violin under Chiara Banchini. As a violinist, he won the second prize at the Aram Khachaturian Competition, performed with various chamber music ensembles, and served as concertmaster for orchestras in Germany and Switzerland.

From 2009 to 2011, Gharabekyan studied conducting at the Lucerne University of Music under Ralf Weikert. A scholarship from David Zinman enabled him to participate in the prestigious "American Academy of Conducting" at the Aspen Music Festival. He received significant artistic impulses from masterclasses with renowned conductors including Riccardo Muti, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Tugan Sokhiev, David Zinman, Daniele Gatti, and Gennady Rozhdestvensky. Finnish conducting professor Jorma Panula praised him as a "hyper-musical conductor."

As a conductor, Gharabekyan has collaborated with prominent orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Jena Philharmonic, and the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
